Moon Void of Course - Her Lunarship and Her Regal Issues

Change is upon us all, regardless if you are in the USA or even if you can vote, the results of the Nov 4th election will affect directly or indirectly every person on this planet. In fact, looking at the ideological difference between the two candidates, this upcoming presidential election will affect Mother Nature herself as well as our already marred relationship with her.

A close look at the astrological climate on Election Day shows that the planets agree with the notion that we are at a tipping point. On November 4th, Saturn, the planet that rules traditional values, conservatism, caution, and maturity is precisely opposite to Uranus, the planet associated with reform, grassroots movements, computers and technology, humanism, hope and youth. Never before, has the opposition between the two parties and two candidates reflected the opposition between these two planets in such a precise way. Even though the poles show a strong significant lead to Obama, do not let the lead mislead you. When these two planets oppose you can expect the unexpected. Regardless of your political views, my suggestion is don’t trust the polls, go vote!

To add to the celestial drama her Lunarship is having issues almost all of next Tuesday. On November 4th the Moon will be Void of Course from 1:47am to 7pm EST. So what does that mean?

Void of Course means that the Moon will make any aspects with any other planet before she enters a new sign. Imagine the Moon to be a busy mother who is cooking energies, creating opportunities, telling stories and so forth but since there are no aspects to other planets, none of her children or family members are there to enjoy or appreciate it. She will then get very annoyed and frustrated until she will go into a rage and start sabotaging everything. That is why astrologers recommend to avoid having important meetings, signing documents or doing significant things when the Moon is (a)voiding course. It is said that while the Moon is Void of Course, things do not manifest or hold on. It is as if there are no hooks or energetic nails that can hold fast reality. These times are good to undo contracts, break vows, and deliver bad news since the negative information will not be attached to you.

This means that Election Day will be marred by intimidations, long lines that might go way beyond the closing of poles as well as glitches and issues with the voting machines. If you can vote before Nov 4th do so in the name of the Moon.

When the Moon finally finds her course in the evening of November 4th, she will sail into the sign of Aquarius. This is another interesting synchronicity since the USA’s natal moon is in Aquarius. It means that America is coming home, to its lost values. Perhaps at last we can truly declare the dawning of the Age of Aquarius.

Here is a good web site that provides a calendar of the Moon. It has all the phases as well as the Void of Course periods. Just make sure you change the city where you are located.

The Astrological Remedy for the Economy – Add More Taurus!

We have just moved into Scorpio, the sign of death and transformation. If you are feeling some slight winter blues then don’t take it personally, the trees, nature and the earth herself (at least her Northern side) is there with you, shading the old and preparing for a renewal. It is in Scorpio that we celebrate Halloween, a celebration of death and transformation, a festivity of magic and spells. It is this time of the year that the Celts have insured us, we have the ability to look through the veils and see the other side. Who knows, maybe that is why the election in the US always takes place in the midst of Scorpio as to facilitate change and transformation. This email though will be dedicated to the opposite sign of Scorpio – Taurus

At last we are over the Mercury retro in Libra. It has been a rather intense period of time. The scales of Libra swung violently and the place where we saw it the most was in the stock market. 8 days of the worst slide in 7 decades and then on October 13th the highest rise in 75 years! My friend Evi Orologas send me this link from CNBC mentioning the Mercury Retro and its association to the financial situation. Economist are so desperate to explain what is happening in Wall Street that they are not afraid to be seen flirting with Astrology…
http://www.cnbc.com/id/15840232?video=875316256

While Libra is governed by Venus the planet associated with money, it is the other sign ruled by Venus, Taurus, that is considered to be the zodiac archetype associated with money and finance. It is not surprising that when the market is doing well it is called Bull market and when it is sleeping it is called Bear. The symbolic logic of astrology tells us that if Taurus rules astrology, by connecting to that sign we can enhance our moneymaking abilities and attract abundance into our lives. Astrology asks us in times of recession to become a Taurus and do what we can to embrace that archetype.

So how do we do it?

For that we have to look at the other aspects of life ruled by Taurus and access the sign’s magic through those areas. Taurus rules values. We need to change our values. It is time we all recognize that we need to change our priorities and put down in writing both individually and as a society, what is it we value. This will translate into self worth and later into abundance. The change in market will create a change in our values. Listen to all the socialistic “accusation” McCain is throwing at Obama. It is not surprising that stocks lose their values and banks lose their worth. These aspects of life: self-worth, values, talents and money are all linked and relate to Taurus the Bull. In times when the value of money diminishes, we have to override money and go directly to our talents and values which are also ruled by Taurus. This means that we have to create communities focused on trading talents and good instead of waiting for money to be the mediator. Taurus teaches us that the way to abundance is through self worth. While most of us think that we will be happier if we make more money, Taurus says, no, you will make more money if you love yourself and become more happy. I personally think that because the USA had such a low self esteem in the last 8 years that it reflected in the value of the US Dollar. It is as if the currency absorbed all the lack of self worth. Since the USA is the leader of the Free World, its lack of self worth affected the global economy.

The formula for gaining more money according to astrology is:
(Self Worth+Talents)xValues=$$$

High self esteem combined with recognition and development of your talents all multiplied by a strong set of values will make you money. Even if you think that your values (honesty, charity) seem to reduce your immediate money making potential (for example refusing a lucrative offer to work as the marketing director of McDonalds when you are a health freak vegan) if you stick to your core you will be rewarded. That is according to the Gospel of Taurus.

Try it and let me know how it goes!

According to Kabbalah, the Hebrew letters can work as talismans or gateways to the Zodiac archetypes. Here is an excerpt from Cosmic Navigator:

According to Sefer Yetzirah, the Book of Creation, the Hebrew letter Vav was assigned to Taurus. Vav translates as “the hook” or “nail,” and indeed the shape of the letter resembles a sharp nail. Like a nail, Taurus acts as the physical connector that binds any two objects together.

Taurus embodies the old alchemical formula “as above, so below.” Alchemy viewed the Tree of Life as the symbol of this ancient formula—the nail that joined the heavens to the earth. Trees, of course, represent nature—another sign that Taurus operates as the yoke that physically joins the spiritual with the material. The word yoga comes from the Sanskrit word “to yoke,” and the practice of yoga stands as a spiritual system designed to yoke the body to the soul. The letter Vav proves that Taurus is much more than a sign obsessed with luxury and stuff. Grounded firmly in the earth, Taurus serves as a ladder, a magical pea tree that leads to the divine. Even many atheists and agnostics, who admit to no belief in any religion or spiritual pursuit, will concede that they do believe in the awesome, inexplicable power of nature (Taurus).

In Hebrew, the letter Vav functions as a conjunctive prefix similar to the word and: boys and girls, black and white. Again Taurus nails two separate things into one. Additionally, the Bible uses Vav to transform verbs from future to past tense, indicating that Taurus (and the material world) not only unites objects in space, but also joins actions in time. This concept might prompt some to engage in a convoluted philosophical discussion, but the simple truth of Vav and Taurus is this: everything in our material world is One. All objects joined by the nail of Taurus, as well as all time (past, present, and future), are united. Taurus and this material world simply provide the vessel in which life and unity can thrive.

Meditate on the letter Vav whenever you want to connect to something or somebody. Use it too whenever you need abundance or an outlet for your talents. In addition, take at least two yoga classes this week and ask the teacher to show you the Tree Pose.

Talking about Trees. My friend and webmaster EagleGeorge has sent me this link about the oldest tree in the world

The Zen Question of the Presidential Debate

“What don’t you know and how will you learn it?”

I watched the Presidential debate hoping it will generate some ideas, thoughts, associations etc, something to write about or comment. But nothing. The political ping pong went on and on going someplace close to nowhere. It felt to me like both candidates could not say what they really wanted and therefore resorted to slogans, repeated statements and recycled jokes. I would like to suggest a new type of debate where the candidates are forced to take a truth drug before they begin. I promise the network much higher rating and America a better future…

But like in any good story, there was a twist at the end to save the day. The last question came from the internet. I love it! It is as if this collective body of knowledge, this cyber entity called www came up with a question. Tom Brokaw warned the candidates that the question had a somewhat “Zen like” koan quality: What don’t you know and how will you learn it. I think the internet is living up to its name. The internet speaks a binary language of yes – no, true – false, 1-0, no wonder it produced a question that is both true and false and illogical in its logic. If there is something the candidates do not know, how will they know it? And if they do not know what they do not know, how could they possibly know what they need to learn? But that was not the question. The internet came out with a rhetorical question which can be rephrased: Do you two guys recognize the fact that there are things you do not know, and if so, are you OK with that? Both candidates failed to answer the oracle of the internet. But, an interesting chain of events and synchronicities followed the question. Senator Obama started answering the obscure question by referring to his wife, Michelle, who was sitting dressed in a Republican red dress. Hmmm, I thought to myself at last, the plot thickens…

McCain did not do any better in his attempt to answer the koan. His response would probably have earned him a beating from a seasoned Zen master, which in Western term might come across as lowered rates of approval in polls. But the answer came to those who did not close their TV right away but watched the action around the debaters as their friends and family came down to the arena. I was struck by the color scheme. There is Cindy, McCain’s wife, wearing Democratic blue while Michelle, Obama’s wife, is wearing red. McCain and Obama remained partisan as ever in their color choice for their ties. Obama blue and McCain wore red.

But their wives? Their Eves!

What a classic switcharoo! Was the Zen question bringing forth a Yin Yang dance between red and blue? A little McCain red tie in the sea of Cindy blue? A little Obama blue point in the wave of Michelle red? Hmmm… internet is a wise teacher indeed…

This intercourse between the Merciful blue and the Sever red became more and more intense. It felt to me that the Yin Yang manifested in the debate as Obama the merciful tried to look more sever while the old warrior McCain, took effort in appearing more compassionate by saying “my friends” every sentence or two…

The room where the debate was held looked like some futuristic virtual lab; the floor was red the walls and ceiling blue. It was a little hard on the eyes. It reminded me of the movie Tie Me Up Tie Me Down by Almodovar. A magical duet of the merciful blue and the sever red. But more then the movie I kept seeing the Kabbalistic Tree of Life and the two spheres: red Severity and blue Mercy. These two spheres, just like the political parties they represent, are on opposite sides of the aisle, of the pillar of balance.

Mercy is in the center of the pillar of expansion while Severity is located in the center of the pillar of constriction. And we are not talking only budget and ideology here; we are talking archetypes, energy generators and containers. Even though they are located on the opposite sides of the pillar of balance, they do have a path of wisdom, a highway of light, or in Hebrew, Nativ, that insures the two extreme are connected. That path is called Strength and is associated with the zodiac sign Leo which happens to be the sign of Senator Obama. It is called the path of Strength because true power comes from the wedding of Compassion and Severity, Mercy and Security.

So the answer to the Zen question: there is none. Like I said, the Zen question by definition has no answer. I think the internet generated closing question was designed to make us ask more questions. According to the Tree of Life as well as the stylists who chose the dressed to the hopeful first ladies, the Zen question brought up the need to recognize the fact that true strength which America needs now more then ever has to do with putting together the blue and red, the mercy and severity of God’s creation. But this is true also to each one of us. If in our lives we can put these two archetypes together, be active and receptive, outgoing and deep, masculine and feminine, powerful and gentle, we will create the perfect harmonious life we all wish for ourselves and others.

Amen and thx the Lord for the Internet…

Happy Mythological Birthday to Humanity – New Moon in Libra

Moses was told by God, that the newly freed salves wondering in the desert towards their Promise Land should start using a calendar. I guess the logic was that while they were slaves, time was not their own to spend. Now, as they were journeying towards their own piece of land, it was important they master time. Moses informed his trailing congregation that the year should start in Nisan – Aries, the first day of Spring. And so it was for centuries. But all things change, including time. Later on, as Judaism developed its own identity, the Rabbis transplanted the New Year from Aries to its opposite sign – Libra. They based the reason for this shift on a passage from the book of Leviticus: “In the seventh months (Libra is the seventh sign) on the first day of the month (the Jewish calendar is Lunar/Solar therefore the months begin on the New Moon) shall be a solemn rest to you, a memorial proclaimed with the blast of the horn. (Lev. XXIII, 24) The horn of course belongs to Aries the Ram.

In Jewish lore and Kabbalah, the day of Rosh Hashanah, which means the head of the year, is a very special day. It is believed that God created Adam and Eve 5769 years ago on this day. That means that mythologically speaking, humanity’s birthday this year will fall on the New Moon in Libra, September 28th. It is not a coincidence that Adam and Eve were born as Libra. Maybe it is an embedded message to all of us to once and for all realize that women and men are equal under God. Libra is also the sign of relationships, Adam and Eve after all are the primordial couple.

So while we all might have our own individual birthdays, this coming New Moon is another celebration for you. Please buy yourself a gift as well as give another human being a present or a hug on that day.

September 28th is a magical day according to Kabbalah and astrology. Ask the moon for a wish, something that you need in your relationship. If you have a relationship, ask for clarity on a specific issue if you do not, then send to the moon, an image of how you would like your future relationship to be. You never know…this might lead to the beginning of something other then just the year…

Happy Birthday

Power of Names II

Before I begin, happy Equinox! On Sep 22nd, we officially started the introversive and feminine part of the year. We are asked to mimic nature, shed off what we do not need and let go of our masks. This will help us become more intimate with ourselves and others. It is a wonderful time for insights, meditations, self discovery and study. Mercury is going retrograde from September 25th to October 15th. You know the drill, watch what you sign, don’t make major purchases and be careful what you say, write or communicate.

In this SpiriTalk, I would like to continue the subject of the Power of Names by analyzing the names of the Presidential candidates. I will start with the Republican nominees Sarah Palin and John McCain and next SpiriTalk work with the Democratic elected Joe Biden and Barack Obama.

According to Kabbalistic lore, Sarai, the wife of Abraham, was 90 years old when an angel of God announced that she will soon be pregnant. She could not phantom what kind of magic or miracle would make her aching body conceive let alone deliver a healthy child. But her wizard of a husband, which according to tradition authored the Book of Creation, decided to give God a help by inserting the letter H, the letter associated with Aries and therefore, the seed of life, into both their names. Abram became Abraham and Sarai became Sarah. Sarah conceived instantly and gave birth to Isaac who was famous not so much for his own merits but for being the son of Abraham and the father of Jacob. Sarah, in Hebrew means mistress or ruler. This little fable which happened about 4000 years ago has some current reverberation in the political sphere. When I heard that Sarah Palin was nominated as the running mate of John MaCain, my first question was “Does she spell her name with an H?” When I heard that she does have an H in her name, I told my Democrat friend – you guys are in trouble. Indeed, the polls confirmed my H suspicion. Spelled this way, Sarah can easily become the ministers or ruler, hence president of the free world. The H gives her the seed of power. Astrologically speaking, her Sun sign is Aquarius, the sign that can uplift the crowds. In the Tarot, Aquarius is ruled by the Lady of the Stars. In Sarah’s case, the Lady of the Aurora. The interesting thing about Sarah Palin’s chart is that in the moment of her selection to be the running mate of John McCain, her Saturn was precisely conjunct Pluto. This is a very powerful aspect that occurs once every 29-30 years. This is usually considered an earth shuttering aspect that jolts people’s life. It also reveals secrets (the story of the hacking into her yahoo account is one but there should be more revelations soon). One other astrological aspect, bears grim news to the Democrats. Next year, starting from January, Jupiter will visit the sign Aquarius for a whole year. This means that Aquarians are going to receive the best energies in twelve years. For example, 12 years ago, in 1996, Sarah Palin was elected Mayor of Wasilla, AS. This election, her supporters assert, gave her the experience she needs to be the leader of the Solar System in case John McCain does not complete his term…

John McCain’s name is easier to analyze since his first and last name are the same. John comes from the Biblical name Yohanan, which means, God is gracious. His last name McCain is a variant of McKean, or Son of Ian. Ian is the Scottish version of John. John was the longest living apostle, which leads us to believe that John McCain is here to stay and the worries about his age, at least according to his name, should not be taken too seriously. However, John McCain is a Virgo and since September 2007, Saturn, the Lord of Karma, is in that sign. It is not easy to be a Virgo now. The sign of auditing is being audited…

Saturn travels through Virgo every 30 years. Last time this happened McCain was promoted to Capitan (1977), got divorced (1980) and resigned from the Navy (1981). Saturn was sitting hard on his chart back then and is doing it again until the Fall of 2009. This is not an easy aspect and can cause delays, frustrations and difficulties in his campaign. According to most astrology data banks, he shares the same rising sign as Bill Clinton, which is Libra. That puts Virgo, the sign Saturn is sailing through right now, on the cusp of his 12th house. This is the house of letting go, surrender, hospitals, and suffering. His Saturn moves into that house in October/November 2008. He will have to face some major disappointment around that time. More troubling for his campaign is the Saturn Neptune conjunction, a time of confusion, failing immune system, bursting bubbles of illusions, and deception coming from a friend or a group that surrounds him…

In a Few days, I will continue this analysis for the Democratic candidates…

Have a great autumn, and remember, the message of the next three months is letting go of the past and accepting a certain death that will lead to a new life in the spring…

Happy Libra!

Love,
Gahl Eden Sasson

Power of Names

In the book of Genesis we read that once God finished his creation, he politely asked Adam and Eve to name the animals and plants. Since an early age I wondered how come Adam and Eve chose such complicated unpronounceable names such as Agathis Australis etc. That query put aside, names are considered to be of out most importance in many spiritual traditions. In Kundalini Yoga, the yogini starts her practice with the chant Sat Nam, which roughly translate to “truth is my name.” In Judaism, God is many times called Ha’Shem which means “the name.” Many traditions assert that our names contain our destiny, the DNA of our soul. In other words, our name can tell us where we came from, where we are as well as our destiny. Our names tell a story which takes as much time telling as our years on earth. Our names’ tale begins in conceptions and ends with our final breath.

While our name might change, add or subtract letters, shift, morph, misspelled or mispronounced, it will always serve as a lighthouse that shows the way even in the darkest most turbulent nights. In the introduction to Cosmic Navigator, I share the story of how I followed the meaning of my name all the way from Israel to the US and how it helped me connect to Astrology, Kabbalah, Yoga and everything that I am today.

I would like to dedicate this blog to Uncle Sam. The power of names applies not only to human, plants, businesses and restaurants, but also to nations and countries…
"Resolved by the Senate and the House of Representatives that the Congress salutes Uncle Sam Wilson of Troy, New York, as the progenitor of America's National symbol of Uncle Sam."
--The 87th United States Congress resolution issued on September 15, 1961

Uncle Sam became the pictorial representation of the US government in the first part of the 19th century. Like any other story, we don’t really know which version is the “true” one, but most agree that the origin of Uncle Sam can be traced to Samuel Wilson, a meat supplier who faithfully delivered soldiers his goods during the 1812 war. From 1852, the image of Uncle Sam became the most popular personification of the USA. Dressed in the national colors, heavily propagating patriotism, his finger sticking out of the poster pointing at YOU. If we need a name to contain the collective consciousness of the US (the abbreviations could, after all, stand for Uncle Sam) Samuel would be that name. So what does Samuel mean?

The origin of the name is biblical and therefore Hebrew. But to tell you what it means, I have to tell another story…

Hannah was the favorite wife of Elkanah. The name Hannah is derived from the same root as “grace” or “mercy” and Elkanah, literally means, “God has purchased.” Obviously, we are dealing with a story that will have a lot of tears, compassion and a certain element of trade and negotiations.

While Hannah could not give her beloved husband any children, his other wife bore his a child. Elkanah’s other wife begun mistreating Hannah, degrading her and gloating at her misfortune. Every year, Hannah made a pilgrimage to the tent of God, focusing all her intention and prayer on being able to have a child. On one such occasion, when her pain was unbearable, her knees buckled and she broke out in a sob. No more prayers, no more ritual, she just released all her anguish and started conversing directly with God. She promised God that if he opens her wombs to life, in return, she will give up the child to be raised as a man of God. She vowed that “no razor shall touch his head.” (Samuel 1 1:11) No, I am not saying that the name Samuel created the hippies and flower-power movement, but then again, with names, you never know how far their powers go…

The High Priest, Eli, saw Hannah’s strange mumble and tears and mistaken her for a drunken woman. The ecstasy of her prayer could have been easily perceived as intoxication. When he stood corrected he asked her to go home. Her wish was already granted. Sure enough, about nine moons later, a perfectly healthy and extremely vital son was born. Hannah named him Samuel, which the bible tells us means, “borrowed or lent from God.” Samuel grew to become a powerful wizard and prophet. He was the one that unified the 12 quarrelling tribes into one kingdom. He was the one who anointed King David and started one of the longest lasting dynasties in history. A bloodline that according to the New Testament led to Jesus.

What does it tell us about the US? First and foremost is the fact that the US, by adopting the name Samuel, was lent to the world by God. Maybe the combined population that makes up the United States - people from all religions and races, from all corners of the world, had to converge in an attempt to be the Light to the Nation. Light that is borrowed from God. Maybe that is why on the $1 bill you find the announcement – In God we Trust. Maybe on the $1000 it should say – From God We Came.

If we look at the situation now, the US is living its name but in reversal. The recession which is blamed on bad mortgages, deception, greed and mismanagements of loans is a good example how we are not living according to our name. In addition, as a nation, we are borrowing money from China so we could buy oil from nations, tribes and cultures that not always like us that much. As of the spring of 2008, the US owes the rest of the world 9.5 trillion dollars which means each resident in the US owes $32,000 on top of what their dept might be in their personal finance. Alas, we have drifted far away from the time the US landed energy, money and talent to rebuild Europe after WWII.

An analysis of the name Sam will also yield that when the US finally reaches its full potential in wizardry and prophesy it must unite the warring nations of the world and anoint someone or something that can help deliver this world from its current discord. Maybe the US is to start a new society, a new colony in space, a new movement whereas people could start manifesting their full potential. Maybe it is an outreach program to solve world hunger, diseases or undeveloped countries. Who know? Uncle Sam does…

The final message is to all you graphic designer, marketing directors and commercials agencies. Make sure you are using the right symbol for the right message. Using Uncle Sam for a poster that asks mothers to give up and lend their children so they could fight in a war is an ironic if not cynical use of the power of the name Sam. We each have to make sure we connect to the positive aspect of our name, just like we have to tap into the light side of our birth sign. I recommend that you google your name and find out what it means. It’s your birth right…

August 16th Eclipse and the whole 08-08-08 Business

On August 16th we will experience the second act of the drama that was unfolded on the Solar eclipse of Aug 1st. This coming Full Moon in Aquarius represents the completion of a process started on the New Moon in Leo two weeks ago. I received many emails and comments about how powerful, challenging and transforming the weekend of August 1st was on so many levels. It does not mean this coming eclipse will be adding gasoline to the wildfires the eclipse started, but it does suggest that whatever was initiated on the new moon will come full circle on the full moon. So, as the poets say, take heed!

This eclipse in Aquarius, the sign of humanity, friends, groups and organizations will ask us to let go of whatever is holding us back, as a society and as individuals from experiencing the full range of energies of the Age of Aquarius (see below the excerpt). It will ask us to examine all our friendships, clubs and groups we belong to and reassess our connection to our fellow human beings. On this full moon weekend, spend time with your friends or find activities that might introduce you to a new circle of friends…

So what is it about the 08-08-08 that freaks out as well as inspires people all over the world? Well, unless you are on the Olympic team, you need not concern yourself with that date. It, as the Taurean Shakespeare reminds us, much to do about nothing. There is no portal, vortex, doorway, star-gate or any opening to a different dimension happening today. It’s just a plain old day with a great name, a kind of the Paris Hilton of the calendar. It is very rare for any date on the Gregorian calendar to mean anything, since after all it’s not really August 8 2008 today, since the calendar has been manipulated and changed many times. So there you have it, I spoiled the party. The only reason some people feel strange this weekend is because it happen to fall smack in the middle of the two powerful eclipses. Nothing more, nothing less. Of course, since 8-8-08 happens to fall during Leo, the date itself started feeling awfully special and thinks it is the king of all dates. Ha! Thank God we have the upcoming eclipse in Aquarius, the sign of democracy, to bring the power and attention to the rest of the days…

The Chinese with their deep love to the number 8 (in Feng Shui, 88 is double happiness) have chosen this date for the Olympics based on its over populated digit 8. For me it is somewhat bewildering that a government who does whatever it can to suppress religion, faith and mysticism, should be so superstitious…

It makes me wonder…

They say that the first and most important faculty for philosophers, as in those who love wisdom, is the ability and inclination to…wonder. This, of course, promotes Alice and her lovely Wonderland, from a dreamy girl into a great philosopher. This line of somewhat unreasonable reason, also upgrades all of us who are busy daydreaming while we wait for the traffic lights to change, to philosophers and thinkers.

I love to wonder.

And I guess I am trying to make a case for my wondering in general and perhaps rationalize my need to wonder off into strange places as a philosophical pursue which could almost qualify as a tax deductible use of time. I wanted to share with you an excerpt of my book, entitled, The Age of Aquarius, which was written in one of these moments of wonder. It will also help you understand the upcoming eclipse in Aquarius as well as the next 2000 years…
Hope to see you in person especially if you are in NYC between Sep 1-7th

The Age of Aquarius

Aquarius is the sign of the future. And we experience the same difficulty in predicting and forecasting the future as we encounter when we attempt to categorize and understand Aquarius people. Aquarius is the most unpredictable and fluctuating archetype. The fact that they fall under no category is the only category that they fall under. Aquarians, the people of the future, view the past as nothing more than a chain that ties us down. They see the past as redundant, done, and gone. Instead, they proclaim, let’s focus on what is to come. Let’s see what we can do about making the future better. Your house of Aquarius functions like this too. It marks the area of your life in which you harbor great hope for the future.

At the risk of alienating the Aquarians, I need to write a bit about the past, if only to illuminate the future—the Age of Aquarius that the hippies rejoice over in the wonderful musical Hair. Astrology divides history into ages that last about two-thousand years. Each age is named after a sign—only the progression of the ages move counter to the normal procession of the signs through the calendar year. For example, the Age of Aries started in the year 2000 BCE. The Age of Pisces lasted from the year 0 to about AD 2000, and so forth. We now stand at the crossroad between the Age of Pisces, which is the age of faith and religion, and the Age of Aquarius, or the age of knowledge and science. This transition, which has been occurring for about the last four hundred years, is fraught with turmoil. You can see it in the world
around us. While some parts of the world become more Aquarian—more computerized, scientific, and modern—other groups of people cling to the dying age of religious fanaticism and narrow-mindedness. Even within the most advanced, egalitarian, and futuristic societies like the United States, religious fundamentalism battles
against scientific advances like the theory of evolution and stem-cell technology. While scholars such as Samuel Huntington contend that wars around the globe erupt as a result of clashes between civilizations, I believe these wars spring from the fault lines that divide Aquarius and Pisces—between Pisces-based religious philosophies
and those that venerate Aquarian-ruled science and equality. For thousands of  years, astrologers have prophesied that the Age of Aquarius heralds the Age of Humankind, the era when our species will evolve to a higher spiritual state. Kabbalah has dubbed this period the Age of Sabbath. And the Mayan prophecies dictate that a new age of timelessness will begin in 2012. Great shifts—including war and scientific and medical revolutions—have cropped up with terrifying speed as the world embraces the unpredictable energies of Aquarius.

From the discovery of the planet Uranus (ruler of Aquarius) in 1781, we have dived deeper and deeper into the Age of Aquarius. The liberte, egalite, fraternite of the French Revolution, the American Revolution, the Industrial Revolution, and the information and cyber revolutions represent just a few blips on the radar screen of this new epoch. In alchemy, the symbol of Aquarius (k) signifies the vital assimilation
of substances. We witness a similar process of assimilation in the realities of globalization, political free-trade zones like the European Union and North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), and the merging—often through corporate expansion (McDonald’s, American Idol, Nintendo) or the transfer of spiritual rituals form the East to the West (yoga in Iowa) and the West to the East (Jesus in Korea)—of people from different races and cultures. Cell phones, computers, the Internet, satellites, and many other Aquarian inventions have fused humans together on every inch of the globe. Tokyo, Shanghai, and Singapore in the Far East have built western-styled skyscrapers, financial institutions, casinos, and Starbuck’s shops, while Eastern-born yoga, Zen, and martial arts flourish in Europe and the United States.

Electromagnetic waves, the prevailing symbol of this burgeoning archetype, deliver the Aquarian message of union, equality, and fraternity by wireless technology. Today, mobile phones connect billions of people, groups, and ideologies. About 2.8 billion cell phones are in use worldwide with about 1.6 million added every day.
By 2011, an estimated 4 billion people will carry a mobile phone. Not so long ago technology was reserved for the rich, powerful, and elite. But democracy-loving Aquarius has ushered in a democratization of technology by drastically dropping the costs. Just a few years back, musicians had to wait for major labels to fund recordings in expensive analog studios. With today’s relatively economical digital gadgetry,
musicians from all over the world can record and then market their tunes right from their own bedrooms. Amateur video and filmmakers similarly share their artistic endeavors with sympathetic audiences everywhere via free Internet sites like You Tube. And financial traders buy and sell fortunes in London or Hong Kong while lounging with their laptops on the beach in Maui. Aquarius, the ruler of all this futuristic technology, has also worked to create fraternity among the machines themselves. An iPod, for example, can now link up to your running shoes and adjust the tempo of the music to the pace of your jog. It takes no great prophet to predict that electromagnetic crime, consisting of cyberpirates, a digital mafia, and computer viruses, will follow these Aquarian trends. And the next big terrorist attack likely will emerge from and within the wireless skies. National Public Radio recently interviewed an Israeli woman who had been relocated from her former home in the Gaza strip (see Capricorn discussion on Saturn return, p. XXX) [XREF]. She despaired that her financial lot had tumbled badly because she no longer inhabited the land on which she’d used to grow
Christmas trees for the European market. How funny and Aquarian that a Jew had sold trees to Christians farmed on territory that belonged to Muslims. The Oscarwinning Brokeback Mountain, a movie about the illicit love affair between two American cowboys, was filmed in Canada, directed by an Asian (Ang Lee), written by a woman (Annie Proulx), and starred heterosexual actors portraying gay men. This conglomeration of nations, genders, and subject matter mirrors the energy of assimilation Aquarius has preached for the last many years. This mutual cooperation and respect—rather than M-16 machine guns and Bradley fighting vehicles—will bring about world harmony and peace. This unification of ideas, resources, and people from all over the globe will give rise to the Age of the Aquarius. Aquarius in your chart indicates where you can facilitate the painful transition from the Age of Pisces to the Age of Aquarius. You must change what you “believe” into what you “know.” Back your faith with reason, facts, and information. And share
it with us all.

Leo Eclipse

On August 1st we will experience a total solar eclipse in Leo. A total solar eclipse is caused when the moon covers up the sun by passing directly between it and the earth. Traditionally, this planetary alignment was associated with misfortune. But we cannot seriously make the eclipses the scapegoats for our problems. What the eclipses do is unveil secrets, release the beasts from our inner Guantanamo-Bay and bring them to our awareness. The eclipse did not put the dirt under the rug, it only shows us what was already there, thus forcing us to bring the vacuum cleaner. Eclipse are associated with the deepest layer of our subconscious. If heaven and hell have each seven levels, then I am sure the subconscious has 7 as well and if so, the eclipse has the magic of transmitting our awareness to the deepest layer. It is a psychic elevator to the place where we keep all our X files. That is what is happening this weekend.

This eclipse is especially powerful since it is located in the Golden State of Leo. It is as if the eclipse will strip the king of ceremony and ritual and show us the naked emperor. Leo is associated with the ego and this eclipse will do all in its power to humble us and peel off whatever part of the ego that blocks us or stand in our path to happiness and creativity, which are also ruled by Leo. Since Mercury will conjunct the eclipse, it will help us receive a message, a communication, a clue, a book, an email or an intellectual opportunity to better understand what aspect of our ego we need to let go of. It will probably be something to do with fear, a childhood fear (Leo rules children). Something you still carry with you from the ages of 3-7. Something that might have served you well at that age, but is no longer needed, like an army in times of peace. The New moon of each month (August 1st) determines the energy of the next 30 days. It will set the intention for the next lunar cycle. Start something new on the New Moon and send it out to the Moon. Then focus on gratitude on the Full Moon in two weeks time. Since Leo is the sign of sports, entertainment, fun and happiness, you should initiate these activities either practically or symbolically in these next few days.

Since Leo is also the sign of spirituality, and the eclipse is associated with unveiling, I decided to make the downloads of my astrology lectures of the 12 signs free, so anyone who wants to connect to their own sign or the sign of their loved one can just get it for free. Please pass it along so more people can utilize these lectures.

Have a great and enlightening Eclipse, just don’t get stuck in the elevator that goes down…

Bad is the New Good – Meditations on HellBoy

The tagline “Believe it or not, he’s the good guy,” started a train of thoughts that eventually lead me to this Spirit Talk.

The line is from the poster for the new film of master storyteller, Guillermo del Toro, Hell Boy. The poster depicts an image of what appears to be a red demon, an image that could have been taken from a manual used in the Middle Ages by clergy to identify devils and demons.

The poster actually counted on the fact that we might not believe he is the good guy. Immediately I thought about the graphic novel I am currently reading called Lucifer. In that story, the fallen angel takes residence in Los Angeles after retiring from running Hell. As you get to know the unlikely hero, you cannot help falling for the charming Devil and identifying with him. He is kind of intriguing, deep, and multi-dimensional. Common notions up until a few decades ago, would have made me a Satanist for reading such a thing.

Then I thought about the last three installations of Star Wars, where the antagonist, Darth Vader, is the protagonist. We cry when toddler Vader is being hurt, we smile at his victories and all this time we know that he is the bad guy! What is this all about? A reversal of magnetic fields? A shift in the polarities? Or maybe it’s called balancing, assimilation, union, convergence… Maybe the old stories of good versus bad and moral rigidity are melting. Maybe these stories that we are so attracted to show that we are ready to see life not as black and white, but in all shades of gray as well. After all, there is no good and there is no bad. God is One…

For a long time I was trying to find a name to the age we are living in right now. The age Kabbalists call “Shabbat,” the Mayan dub the “End of Time” and Astrologers label the “Age of Aquarius.” It dawned on me when I looked at the poster of a demon from Hell that is risking his life to save humanity, that this is the Age of Convergence. All the opposite lines are now meeting in the center; the spokes unite in the axis, what alchemists have named – Axis Mundi – the immoveable spot of enlightenment. In alchemy, the symbol of Aquarius is used to represent the process of assimilation. It is the age of wireless waves, where everything is synchronized. I am happy the bad guy turned good, I am happy we can speak openly about who we are, our shadows, our fears. I am sure Jung, the great psychologist who coined the term synchronicity, would be delighted to live in this age, where we as a culture, are doing the best to assimilate our collective shadow. A concept Jung emphasized as extremely important in order to create healing.

I had a reading with a woman a few weeks ago in Turkey, who told me flat out, that besides the birth of her two kids, her Cancer was the best thing that happened to her in her life. She had a stage three Cancer. It shook her so badly that she changed her life and now she is a far happier a woman and mother. It made me think about how the Buddha had a visit from Hellboy as he was meditating under the Bodhi Tree and because he managed to over come the three temptations presented by the Devil, he realized, like the lady that had Cancer, that he is enlightened.
Then Christ came zooming into my consciousness, with his own visit from the Devil in the desert who also presented three temptation which by passing them, Christ had attained a higher realization of his mission. I guess this means there will be Hellboy three coming soon, since from the days of the Buddha, stories come in three sequels…

This Full Moon (July 17-18) presents a powerful time to confront your shadow and let the light of the moon shine through. It is a Full Moon in Capricorn and the Tarot card the rules Capricorn is the Devil, or Hellboy. This weekend we will all have to face our Pan, our Hellboy, our Devil. Under the light of the moon we need to dance with him/her and welcome that aspect of ourselves into our consciousness.

Save the beast from the unconscious and bring it into the light. We don’t need to drown it in holly water. It did not work that well before, obviously they are still here. However, if you realize Holly Water is the symbol of compassion and unconditional love then you can use that Holly Water, not the H2O found in Churches but in your heart. Only then will you be able to transform enemy into a friend, foe into alley, and devil into angel…

Happy Full Moon
